Grasslands are important ecosystems that are often overlooked. How can we predict their future? 

At the moment we are unable to understand and predict how natural resources will change over time. To try and rectify this, ecologist are setting up field experiments which simulate possible future conditions to quantify how ecosystems respond. 

One example is the RainDrop experiment, located at Wytham Woods in Oxfordshire. Here, scientists are using special 'rainout' shelters to simulate conditions of extreme drought and heavy rainfall to understand how the grassland ecosystem responds. We catch up with three scientists from the University of Oxford who are working on the project - Dr Rob Salguero-Gómez, Sara Middleton and Prof Andy Hector - to find out more. Check out the video here.

[ESP] El experimento RainDrop: planes de comunicación y redes sociales

Los pastizales son ecosistemas importantes que a menudo se pasan por alto. ¿Cómo podemos predecir su futuro? Por el momento, no podemos comprender y predecir cómo cambiarán sus recursos naturales con el tiempo. Para intentar rectificar esta limitación, los ecologos preparando experimentos de campo que simulan posibles condiciones futuras para cuantificar cómo responden los ecosistemas. Un ejemplo es el experimento RainDrop, ubicado en Wytham Woods en Oxfordshire. Aquí, los científicos están utilizando estructuras especiales para evitar la lluvia para simular condiciones de sequía extrema y fuertes lluvias para comprender cómo responde el ecosistema de pastizales.
