Supervisor: Prof Rob Salguero-Gómez

I am a third year PhD researcher at Quaid-i-Azam University, Pakistan, and a recognized PhD student at the University of Oxford under the Commonwealth Split-Site Scholarship. My work focuses on threatened and endemic medicinal plants of the Western Himalayas in the era of global change, where exceptional biodiversity and the wellbeing of rural communities are increasingly at risk. I study phytogeography, ecological and community dynamics, functional trait ecology, and climate vegetation interactions to understand how high altitude plant communities respond to environmental gradients, climate change, and expanding anthropogenic pressures. I am strongly committed to field based research and I enjoy working in remote mountainous landscapes where I document species in their natural habitats and engage with local communities who rely on these plants and resources for traditional healthcare, food and income. My research shows how climate change, overharvesting, and habitat degradation are accelerating the decline of key plant species. The goal is to provide evidence for sustainable use, habitat protection, and climate responsive conservation linked to SDG 1 No Poverty, SDG 3 Good Health and Well Being, SDG 13 Climate Action, and SDG 15 Life on Land.
